1. Historic Site of Admiral Yi Sun-sin at Hansando Island
Following a victory over a large Japanese fleet at Hansando Island (Hansan Daecheop), Admiral Yi Sun-sin built Unjudang Hall,.It was used as the headquarters for the naval forces of the three-southern provinces for four years from 1593, during the Japanese invasion.

Admiral Yi, the great naval hero of Korean history, commanded fleets consisting of the world's first ironclad vessels. The Japanese warlord, Hideyoshi, launched an attack on Joseon from 1592 to 1598. Though the Japanese forces were victorious on land, the great tactical skill of Admiral Yi defeated their fleet at sea, cutting off supplies and reinforcements, and thus causing the invasion to fail.

Jeseungdang Hall has been reparied several times since the first restoration work was carried out in 1739 by naval commander Jo Gyeong. It was also enlarged in 1976 and now serves as a fitting memorial to the great warrior's career. Around this site are: a shrine featuring a portrait, a headstone, a monument, two pavillions and some mementoes of Admiral Yi.

Late President Park Chung-hee ordered the renovation of this area as a historic site, the work on which took place from August 1975 to September 1976.

2. Historic Site Related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin in Hansando Island
This place is a historically important site where, in 1592 (25th year of King Seonjo's reign) during Imjin Waeran (Japanese Invasion of Joseon), Admiral Yi Sun-sin built Unjudang Hall (Jeseungdang Hall) after the triumph at the Great Battle of Hansan-- which will shrine throughout the world history of naval battle -- and designated it as the strategic headquarters of the Naval Forces of Three Provinces from 1593 (26th year of King Seonjo's reign) to 1597 (30th year of King Seonjo's reign), whereby he could rule the sea and overcome a national crisis.

142 years after Jeseungdang Hall had been destryoed and closed in 1597, Commander-in-Chief Jo Gyeong had it reconstructed and dedicated a monument to it in 1739 (15th year of King Yeongjo's reign). Since then, the government has designated it as a Historic Site in 1959 and reparied it several times, but they seemed to be insufficient in many aspects to enshrine our national hero, Admiral Yi Sun-sin.

After the President Park Chung-hee had looked around the place in 1975 and ordered that the great achievements of Admiral Yi be honored in order to hand down his sprit of self-sacrifice to save the country to poserity, the place was expanded and renovated in 1976 to its appearance today.

In additon to Jeseungdang Hall where Admiral Yi Sun-sin commaned the naval Forces of Three Provinces when he was still alive, there are other attached facilities such as the shrine hall where the portrait of Admiral Yi is enshrined, many memorial monuments including monuments, Sajeong Pavillion, Suru Watch Tower, etc., which have been smartened up completely and restored to their former glory as part of the From far away, the turtle lighthouse is seen as the entrance to Hansanman Bay. It was built on natural rocks to commemorate the world's first Geobulkseon (Turtle Ship) designed by Admiral Yi Sun-sin and to facilitate the navigation of incoming ships to Hansanman Bay.

Geobulkseon's covered deck was studded with iron spikes and knives to discourage enemies from attempting to board the ship. Its dragon-shaped head could launch cannon fire, and 6 guns were mounted on each side of the ship so that they could be fired in all directions. It is reported that the fleet of Joseon Naval Forces always brought Geobulkseon to the forefront and won a lot of battles.
