画像はギリシア・アテネの国立考古学博物館に展示されるボートのレリーフである。年代は紀元後163／164年とある。 石碑の中央には、皇帝ファミリーを称えて開催されたフェスティバルでの勝利や賛辞が記されている。 石碑の下部に刻まれる5人の漕手が乗り込むボートは、12人からなる2組の競技グループが恐らく「海戦」競技に参加していた ことを暗示している。レリーフに添付された説明テキストは以下の通り。[To be continued] 1466. Stele with a list of youths. Pentelic marble. Found in Athens. On the pediment are recorded the names of the eponymous archon and of the kosmetes Claudius Herakleides. Beneath the pediment reference is made to two gymnasiarchs, followed by the names of the ephebes of the two systremmata (bodies of twelve) for which every gymnasiarch had responsibility. In the centre of the stele is mention of encomia and victories in the annual festivals held in honour of the imperial family. The relief boat with five oarsmen at the bottom suggests that the systremmata had probably taken part in a 'naval battle' contest.
