台湾・蘭嶼島先住民族の漁撈カヌー

画像は台湾・台北市内にある長榮海事博物館のエントランスホールに展示される蘭嶼島（Orchid Island／Lan Yu）の先住民族 タオ族の漁撈ボートである。展示パネルには次のように記される。 蘭嶼の平張りボート（carvel-built boat of Lan Yu） 建造1988年、縮尺1：1、木製、大きさ：　610×142×218㎝ 画像の外板平張りボートは台湾南東沖に浮かぶ蘭嶼島にて建造された。蘭嶼島には台湾の一先住民族であるタオ族が住んでいる。 そのボートは縁のある外板に取り付けられた4本の綱結わい杭　(ティアズ tiers)　を含む27つの木の部材からなる。 また、せり上がった船首部と船尾部をもつ。彼らは船首尾先端に鳥の羽をもって飾り付けするとともに、その両舷側には、 崇め奉る祖先のイメージを描いている。ダイヤモンド形による装飾的縁取りは波を表わす。船首部の白と黒の二重円は、 豊漁の航海へと導くボートの目を表わしている。 This carvel-built boat was made on Orchid Island (Lan Yu), which is situated off the southeast coast of Taiwan. Its residents are the Taos, one of Taiwan's aboriginal tribes. Carvel-built boat consists of 27 pieces of wood including 4 tiers of edged planks and has a raised bow and stern. Islanders decorate their craft with feathers on the bow and stern, with painted images of their revered ancestors on both sides. The diamond border represents waves, while the double circles in black and white on the bow represent the boat's eyes, which seek bountiful fishing trips.
