マゼラン記念碑とラプラプ像 [フィリピン／マクタン島]

画像1&2は、フィリピンのマクタン島 (セブ島の東側中央部地先に浮かぶ小島) 北側のウオーターフロントに並んで立つマゼラン記念碑 とラプラプ像（Mallelan's Marker and Lapu-Lapu Monument）である。記念碑はマゼランのキリスト教の布教活動 (1521年) を讃えたものという。 記念碑のすぐそばには、1521年4月マゼラン率いる船隊所属兵士とラプラプ酋長率いる兵士との激しい戦闘を描く壁画（下方参照）が 展示される。 [画像撮影: 2018.03.20 フィリピン／マクタン島にて][拡大画像: x28131.jpg][拡大画像: x28132.jpg][拡大画像: x28133.jpg]

壁画の銘板には次のように記される。 マゼランの死：　この地で、F.マゼランはマクタン島の酋長のラプラプの兵士と遭遇し、傷を負い、1521年4月27日死亡した。 マゼラン船隊の一隻である「ヴィクトリア号」が、J.S.エルカーノの指揮の下、1521年5月1日にセブ島から船出し、1522年9月6日に サン・ルカール・デ・バラメーダ　(スペイン南部沿岸の町)　に帰着した。人類史上初の世界周航を果たした。 Ferdinando Magellan's Death On this spot Ferdinando Magellan died on April 27 1521, wounded in an encounter with the soldiers of Lapu-Lapu, chief of Mactan Island. One of Magellan's ships, the Victoria, under the command of Juan Sebastian Elcano, sailed from Cebu on May 1, 1521, and anchored at San Lucar de Barrameda on September 6, 1522.
