画像はフィリピン首都マニラのマカティ地区にあるアヤラ博物館 (The Ayala Museum) の「船舶ギャラリー (Gallery of Boats)」に展示
されるガレオン船の模型である。展示説明パネルには次のように記される。
Galleon:
From 1565 to 1815, the galleons laden with treasure shuttled across the Pacific between Manila and Acapulco.
These galleons varied in size but all carried the distinctive half-moon silhouette, with high forecastles and poops.
Framed for resisting monsoons and pirates' attacks, galleons were called the 'strong castles of the sea.'
ガレオン船： 1565年から1815年まで、財宝を積んだガレオン船がマニラとアカプルコとの間で太平洋を横断した。それらのガレオン船の
大きさはまちまちであったが、ガレオン船の全ては髙くせり上がった船首楼と船尾楼をもち、独特の半月形シルエットをもっていた。
モンスーンや海賊の襲撃に抗することができるように形造られており、「海の堅牢な城」と称された。
