タスマン島灯台　Tasman Island Lighthouse

タスマン島灯台はタスマニア島の南東部にある小さな島・タスマン島に建つ。その灯台およびレンズは、チャンス 兄弟(Chance Brothers)によって部分的にイギリスから搬入され、 1906年に海抜250メートルの断崖に建立された。建設時におけるアクセスは困難を極め、人と物の灯台への運び込みは ケーブルカーの軌道上を引き上げるという方法でなされた。光の明滅は5秒間隔でなされ、その到達距離は 30海里(1.852km×30n.m.＝55.56km)であった。1977年にレンズが解体され、灯台守は立ち去りその役目を終えた。 それ以来、投光は自動化され、電気は風力発電によって供給されて来た。 説明パネルには次のように記されている。 Tasman Island lighthouse lens - keeping sailors and ships safe The light from this lens flashed every five seconds and was said to be visible for more than 30 nautical miles. It is a classical 'first order' lens - the most powerful type. Because of the high location of the lighthouse on the cliffs the five panels of the lens had to be tilted. Its lamp was fuelled by kerosene. The clockwork motor which turned the lens is still in working order though an electrical source is making it work today. Together, the lens and its pedestal stand over six metres high. A distant light The Tasman Island lighthouse and lens, made by Chance Brothers, were shipped in parts from England and erected in 1906. Sheer cliffs of the island soar 250 metres above sea level and lighthouse keepers looked after the lens in bleak surroundings. Access was difficult - both people and supplies had to be hauled up on a tramway to reach the lighthouse. In 1977 the lens was dismantled and the lighthouse keepers left the island.
