    キャプテン・クックが10代の頃に見習いとして働いていた大船主の家がウィットビーにあり、現在は博物館となっていて、クック船長が生活していた 当時の様子が再現されている。ウィットビーはクック船長が３度にわたる大航海をした出港地である。ウィットビーには大型探検帆船 エンデバー号のレプリカ、クック船長の記念碑などがある。
