3. Nao: "These ships were stronger and bigger than the caravels. Their great capacity for cargo made them ideally suited to transport
merchandise on the "Spice Route" between Lisbon and Goa. The model ship exhibited is a replica of the ship "S. Gabriel",
in which the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama, discovered the sea route between Europe and India".

Guia Lighthouseの模型
1865年松山(Guia Hill)の標高101.5ｍのところに建造されたGuia Lighthouse。中国の沿岸では最初の灯台である。

宋朝時代のジャンク
1973年に、福建省の泉州港近くの砂泥の下に埋もれているのが発見された。このジャンクの年代は宋朝
(960－1279年)にさかのぼる。

The wheel-boat - also known as the paddle-wheel boat, was a landmark invention in ancient China's shipbuilding
history. It can be dated to 417 AD. By the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907), the paddle-wheel boat had largely
been improved in terms of size and
the number of wheels. Later it was even added to the navy fleet of the Song Dynasty.

available in their regions of origin (tree-trunks,
bamboo canes, papyrus and animal skin). That the simple techniques which were used with these first boats
were adequate for the local conditions, can be seen from the fact

中国の５層ジャンク
館内の説明書きによれば、"Five-Story Junk - It was a type of giant warship used in the Sui dynasty
(581-618 AD). This junk belongs to the category of castled ship, which originated in the Han dynasty.
It was conceived to awe the enemy but offered few advantages in terms of seaworthiness. Historical
paintings depict this junk as a five-story structure,
but judging from sea-keeping capacity and seaworthiness, it is uncertain whether the actual size and
height of the junk's stories
were that amazing. The 'holding derrick' was the most outstanding weapon on this junk. It was used by
the Sui fleet to destroy several enemy vessels, making the fleet virtually invincible."
